As part of the University’s move to Canvas as the Central Learning Environment (CLE), Canvas Studio is available for users to upload, manage and embed videos directly into course content, and includes features like quizzes, comments, and insights to support interactive learning.
A review was undertaken of the existing upload tool within the Video Portal and Canvas Studio, following which it was decided that Canvas Studio will be adopted for:
- Course related videos generated by academic and eLearning staff
- Assessment videos generated by students
What this change means for you
All staff and students should upload course related/assessment videos directly into Canvas Studio.
From the 1st September 2025 the following change will be made to the Video Portal to accommodate this:
- staff will no longer be able to upload to courses
- students will no longer be able to uploads assessments
Staff will still be able to upload videos to Faculty and School areas of the Video Portal.
Note, there will be no automated migration of existing Video Portal uploads to Canvas, but all previously uploaded videos will still be available to view and manage within the Video Portal, and videos can also be embedded into Canvas (as it was in Blackboard).
Live recordings of lectures and other events will continue to be made available via the Video Portal.
