Record a presentation on a mac

Macs which are running Mac OSX Mojave can use the built-in screen recording feature to record a presentation (in MOV format) which can then be uploaded to the Video Portal.

Recording in OSX Mojave

Ensure you have a microphone connected to your device.

  1. Press the Command + Shift + 5 key and a small toolbar will appear at the bottom of the screen. Using the buttons on the toolbar, you can choose to record the entire screen or a selected window.
  2. Click the Options button and ensure that a microphone is selected to record audio. You can use the built-in microphone (if using a laptop), but we recommend an external microphone for better sound quality. You can also choose where to save the finished recording; the default location is the desktop.
  3. Press the Record button to begin recording your presentation.
  4. To stop the recording, press the stop button in the menu bar, or press Command + Control + Esc.
  5. A thumbnail of the recording will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. Click on it to enlarge the video, and click the trim button to edit the file.
  6. You can use the editor to trim the start and end of the video. Click Done when finished.

You will now notice that your slides have a sound icon in the corner which indicates that audio narration has been recorded.
You can remove narrations from a slide by choosing Record Slide Show > Clear.

Ensure you save your presentation when narrations have been recorded.
